About

You do not have to walk alone.

My name is Karen Liebold and I am the owner of The Oaks Counseling Center. I have a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology and I am a LCPC, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the state of Illinois. I am also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. My passion is helping others live through challenging times. My hope is for clients to feel heard, supported, learn new ways of coping and thriving, to find healing and strength. I started my counselor's journey working in hospice as a Bereavement Coordinator in the suburbs and then in downtown Chicago. My job took me all over the city, visiting clients from all backgrounds and beliefs, helping them live life with their dying loved one and then helping them as they grieved their death. I organized, implemented and facilitated Bereavement conferences, memorial services, grief support groups, training programs for medical residents, volunteer program, 5K runs and much more. I own and operate Help4grief.com which is a website to help the bereaved find local support in the Chicagoland area. I worked for a local family grief center as the Suicide Program Clinical Site Coordinator and General Grief Site Coordinator. I facilitated suicide support groups, parent groups grieving the death of a child and children/teen grief groups and groups for professional caregivers. As a mom with children who have disabilities, I understand the complexities, rewards and weariness that comes with parenting them. It is rare to find support groups for parents and my hope is to create a safe space for them to process the immense responsibility of raising these kids. I have created an Allergy Group for Kids, a first of it's kind, to support and educate children with life-threatening food allergies. I also have a desire to serve professional caregivers, first responders and military families. I have created and facilitated process groups for professional caregivers to help them process compassion fatigue, secondary trauma and create care plans for themselves. The Oaks Counseling Center seeks to serve: + the grieving + the traumatized + the weary + the lonely + the suffering + the young + the old + the caregivers + the chronically ill + the dying + the first responders and their families + the military and their families + the parents who have children with disabilities I offer individual counseling sessions and group therapy I work with children and adults.
